Pauleen Bennett
I work at the School of Psychology and Public Health at La Trobe University in Victoria, Australia. My background is in clinical neuropsychology and behavioural neuroscience, but I decided two decades ago that what I liked doing most was spending time with dogs and other animals. I set up and still direct the Anthrozoology Research Group at La Trobe University and I was President of the International Society for Anthrozoology from 2011-2015. My research group is inherently multidisciplinary and multinational. Our work is diverse, ranging from exploring individual differences in dog cognition, perception, personality and behaviour through to understanding antecedents of human mental health and factors that determine compliance with responsible pet ownership requirements. My focus is on the intensely personal relationships that form between humans and companion animals, mostly dogs. I’m particularly interested in finding ways to improve these relationships so that humans, animals and the communities we share obtain maximum benefits. When I’m not working I hang out on my 300 acre farm, where I enjoy life surrounded by dogs, goats, horses and kangaroos. Website: www.anthrozoologyresearchgroup.com
